Google has started to release their new messaging service which will be used to replace SMS for Android phone users. Unlike normal SMS messaging, Google Messenger offers features such as read receipts, videos, group chats and typing indicators.
There are many rivals Google Messenger will face such as WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. Both offer the same features such as group chats and chat indicators, and with WhatsApp using encryption. Apple has their own similar version called iMessage, which works on the same principle as Google Messenger, but with Apple device instead of Android.
With fierce competition, Google Messenger might find it quite hard to establish its presence, however, since Android has a vast amount of users there is plenty of opportunities for it to grow.
